There was the distinct possibility that the Experience Tour wouldn't evoke Jimi Hendrix’s memory any more than seeing a stuffed tiger in a museum. However, his estate has seen to it that the shows provide both a vibrant musical memory and glimpse into the guitarist’s continuing appeal.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Johnny Lang, and Eric Johnson playing alone and together were among a veritable who's who of young(er) Turks with Stratocasters who power-chorded through Foxy Lady, Ezy Rider and Come On. With so much electricity coursing through the air, Doyle Bramhall II’s acoustic take on All Along the Watchtower (with Dweezil Zappa on lead) was a welcome downshift. Later, Eric Gales made the Haze funky as well as Purple.

The final segment of the 3+ hour show brought out Billy Cox and the ever-manic Buddy Guy for his rendition of Who Knows, and he’s still frying the amps at age 77, with a stern reminder that it all started with the blues.
